Hong Kong protesters gather in the mall to read out a declaration

Protestors in Hong Kong read gathered in a mall to read out a declaration for a provisional government Friday in response to an anti-mask law announced by Carrie Lam.

Video released by Reuters showed protestors in masks reading out the statement establishing a provisional government, which was initially published on Reddit like web portal LIHKG. This statement called for the suspension of the Chief Executive and the cabinet along with the creation of a government.

“The declaration helps protestors think: where does this governement’s legitimacy come from? The goverment uses its own position, its status, to take away the freedom for the people to speak. This is merely the intial spark of resistance. To establish a shadow government is merely an idea”

Protests are expected to be continued on Saturday since the anti-mask ban was declared. City metro lines, supermarkets, and malls are being shut down.
